It gives us a great deal of pleasure to state that we have obtained all required approvals for a project that includes constructing a new bridge.  This new bridge will be a modern four lane facility immediately adjacent to the current span over The Rio Grande River connecting the United States and Mexico at the sister cities of Progreso, Texas and Nuevo Progreso, Tamaulipas.

While construction is underway, the plan is to continue to utilize the existing span until the new bridge is opened.  Once the new bridge is open and functioning, the old bridge will be removed.

The new construction will include a commercial only lane, the four lane automobile highway, and much wider pedestrian walkways.

The Bridge at Progreso is a key to economies in both countries.  US manufacturers and maquiladoras in Tamaulipas process products such as textiles, leather goods and packaging materials.  Agricultural products from both countries are transported via The Bridge.  Approximately 2 million other vehicles cross annually as well as millions of pedestrians bringing shoppers from both sides of The Bridge that boost local, state, and national economies.
